Things to Know About THC and CBD

Did you know that THC actually works better when combined with CBD? Together, these two cannabinoids provide increased therapeutic value. Keep reading to learn more about these cannabinoids and the best ways to incorporate them into your routine!

THC and CBD: What Is CBD?

CBD (Cannabidiol) is a naturally occurring cannabinoid that is found in both cannabis plants: marijuana and hemp. The hemp plant is mostly CBD with less than 0.3 percent THC. This where Delta-8 THC is typically derived from. Marijuana is mostly Delta-9 THC, which is psychoactive. Typically CBD is derived from the hemp plant, even though it is found in marijuana too. Hemp-derived CBD is federally legal to sell, own, and use.

THC and CBD: What Is THC?

In this article, we’re using the term “THC” but we’re specifically referring to Delta-9 THC that is derived from marijuana. This cannabinoid can also be found in hemp, but in the pursuit of simplicity, we’ll use “THC” when referring to marijuana-derived Delta-9 THC. While THC has a range of therapeutic values, the difference between it and CBD is that THC contains psychoactive characteristics. Similarly, Delta-8 THC is also psychoactive and can be found in both marijuana and hemp. We’ll touch more on this exciting cannabinoid soon.

The Entourage Effect

The entourage effect is when you combine different cannabinoids with one another, such as CBD and THC. When the two are taken together, the therapeutic effects are significantly enhanced, providing a greater experience than if taken by themselves. It is the ongoing idea that active cannabinoids have the ability to increase activity when they are combined with inactive cannabinoids. The added Terpenes make for an enhanced experience.

Comparing THC and CBD

Comparing CBD and Delta-8 THC

A big misrepresentation exists because many people don’t know that CBD contains little to undetectable amounts of THC. Types of CBD such as – Full Spectrum – tends to have more THC than an Isolate. Although you are receiving many more Cannabinoids aside from CBD, there still might be some THC in your CBD product.

However, there isn’t enough THC in CBD products to make a noticeable difference or justify the extra cost you would spend. The least amount of THC in a product is always the goal for farmers, processors, and manufacturers. When you speak with a hemp farmer, they will tell you that they are trying everything in their power to produce a crop that yields the least amount of THC. The reason why they’re trying to eliminate THC from the equation is that if their crop tests over the 0.3% legal limit, the farmer would lose millions of dollars in hemp that they couldn’t do anything with — it would then be considered marijuana and completely illegal (depending on the state).

How To Tell How Much THC Is In Your CBD Product?

Good CBD products all come with lab reports that will show you exactly what is in the product you’re purchasing. We recommend reviewing lab reports before buying from new brands, and even double checking labs if your order from one of your go-tos. This lab report will show you the percentage of each cannabinoid that exists within the product. Full-spectrum CBD products will contain only a minimal amount of THC. This means that sometimes brands will market full-spectrum CBD products as “THC infused” and try to charge more for them. However, the hemp-derived THC is so minimal that it has no psychoactive effects and thus won’t produce the prized entourage effect either. So, how do you truly take advantage of this entourage effect that consists of combining CBD with THC?
