A lesser-known fact is that THC works better when it’s combined with CBD. When both cannabinoids are together they tend to provide a better therapeutic value. Therefore, we decided to come up with this informative guide on things that you need to know about THC and CBD.
What Is CBD?
CBD (Cannabidiol) is a naturally occurring cannabinoid that is found in the cannabis plant. It is the second-most abundant cannabinoid molecule naturally occurring in the cannabis or hemp plant. The most abundant molecule in the cannabis or hemp plant is of course THC: the psychoactive chemical that makes users feel “high” which CBD does not do.
CBD comes from two different cannabis plants: The hemp plant (with less than 0.3 percent THC present) or the marijuana plant (where there is much more psychoactive THC). Most CBD products tend to use CBD that is derived from the hemp plant which is what makes it legal to sell, own, or use.
What Is THC?
THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), which is often referred to as Delta-9 THC, is a naturally occurring cannabinoid that is found in the cannabis plant. While THC has a range of therapeutic values, the difference between it and CBD is that THC contains psychoactive characteristics and is most known as the part that gets you high in marijuana. Delta-8 THC provides many of the same characteristics as well, however, it is a derivative of hemp.
The Entourage Effect
The entourage effect is when you combine different cannabinoids with one another, such as CBD and THC. When the two are taken together, the therapeutic effects are significantly enhanced, providing a greater experience than if taken by themselves. It is the ongoing idea that active cannabinoids have the ability to increase activity when they are combined with inactive cannabinoids. The added Terpenes make for an enhanced experience.
Comparing CBD and Delta 8 THC
A big misrepresentation exists because many people don’t know that CBD contains little to undetectable amounts of THC. Types of CBD such as – Full Spectrum – tends to have more THC than an Isolate. Although you are receiving many more Cannabinoids aside from CBD, there still might be some THC in your CBD product. This is because it’s relatively impossible to 100% extract all Cannabinoids from CBD.
However, there isn’t enough THC in CBD products to make a noticeable difference or justify the extra cost you would spend. The least amount of THC in a product is always the goal for farmers, processors, and manufacturers. When you speak with a hemp farmer, they will tell you that they are trying everything in their power to produce a crop that yields the least amount of THC. The reason why they’re trying to eliminate THC from the equation is that if their crop tests over the 0.3% legal limit, the farmer would lose millions of dollars in hemp that they couldn’t do anything with — it would then be considered marijuana and completely illegal (depending on the state).
HOW TO TELL HOW MUCH THC IS IN YOUR CBD PRODUCT?
There is a very simple way to tell how much THC is actually in your CBD product. Before purchasing a CBD product, ask for the lab reports. This lab report will show you the percentage of each cannabinoid that exists within the product. Full-spectrum CBD products will contain THC but you will notice that there is a very minimal amount. Since there is technically THC in the product, no matter how minimal, CBD companies use it as a marketing gimmick, a way to entice you to buy a more expensive product, or simply as another selling point in an effort to get you to buy the product. So, how do you truly take advantage of this entourage effect that consists of combining CBD with THC?
THE SOLUTION
Delta Extrax products are often made with a combination of Delta-8 THC distillate, strain-specific terpenes, CBD, and a range of cannabinoids. While we do include a variety of cannabinoids and terpenes in our special blends to help enhance the therapeutic benefits, we only use a minimal amount of CBD in our products to ensure the potency of our Delta-8 distillate remains at the desired potency. Although mixing the two cannabinoids together may increase the therapeutic benefits, the CBD decreases Delta-8 THC’s psychotropic effects.
For those of you who want to experience this entourage effect, some of our products contain a blend of these two cannabinoids. For those of you who want to experience more of the popular CBD benefits, combining our Delta-8 THC product with your CBD product may be more suitable for your specific needs. Feel free to browse our Delta-8 products to truly experience THC.
