In the world of THC, Delta-8 has gained a lot of popularity, especially in states where cannabis is not yet legal. However, you might wonder whether Delta-8 is as good as Delta-9. We explore the similarities between both cannabinoids and help you understand how this all works.
How Similar Is Delta-8 to Delta-9?
Delta-8 and Delta-9 are found in the Hemp plant, which means they are very similar. However, the difference lies in their chemistry and their classification as a controlled substance.
The biggest difference between Delta-8 and Delta-9 is their chemistry. Delta-8 has a double bond in the 8th carbon chain, while Delta-9 has a double bond in the 9th carbon. In other words, there’s a slight difference in their chemical composition.
When you’re dealing with THC, the slightest difference in chemicals results in a different experience. Therefore, a double bond in the 8th carbon is less potent than that in the 9th carbon. However, that doesn’t mean that Delta-8 is not potent; it’s just not as potent as Delta-9.
Classification of THC
What makes Delta-8 better than Delta-9 is its Federal Classification at the time this blog was published. Because Delta-8 is classified as Hemp, it’s not a Federally recognized controlled substance; however, Delta-9 (Marijuana) is.
Therefore, Delta-8 is king because it can be shipped across state lines where Delta-8 is legal. At the same time, Delta-9 (Marijuana) can’t be shipped legally even within states where it is legal because the Post Office falls under Federal regulation.
There is an exception to the rule of Delta-9 because we sell Delta-9 THC online, and it falls within the regulations of Hemp. The reason is that our Delta-9 is Hemp-derived and has less than 0.3% THC.
What makes Delta-9 Marijuana is the plant which it is extracted from. If you extract Delta-9 from a Marijuana plant, then it’s considered Marijuana. However, if you extract Delta 9 from a Hemp plant, it’s classified as Hemp.
The Marijuana plant has high concentrations of THC and low concentrations of CBD, and Hemp has low levels of THC and high levels of CBD. Although it’s more labor-intensive to extract THC from Hemp, it’s the only way we can sell Delta 9 online.
0.3% Delta 9
Another condition to sell Delta 9 online is having less than 0.3% of Delta 9. Although 0.3% is not enough to get the full experience, we’ve made the products bigger so they hit differently.
You might be wondering why you go through all that trouble. For the simple reason that Delta 9 is more potent and makes for a better experience when combined with Delta 8.
Why is Delta-9 More Expensive Than Delta-8?
When we refer to Delta 9, we’re referring to Cannabis/Marijuana. In states where Cannabis is legal, Delta 9 tends to be more expensive than Delta 8. The reason is that you don’t need a prescription or any conditions to buy; also, Delta 8 is not heavily taxed like Cannabis.
Can Anyone Buy Delta 8?
The answer is yes and no. You have to be over 18 or 21 (depending on the state) to buy Delta 8. However, there are no further restrictions like there are with Cannabis. In other words, you can buy as much Delta 8 as you want without needing a special license.
Also, a trip to your local vape shop or gas station will usually carry your favorite Delta Extrax products. However, that’s not the case with Marijuana because only specially licensed dispensaries carry Marijuana.
Marijuana Is More Expensive
If you live in a state where Marijuana is not legal but Delta 8 is, you might not know this, but Marijuana is expensive. The reason behind this is that Marijuana is highly taxed. Also, most banks won’t touch cannabis because of its legal status.
The good news is Delta 8 products are available in the same flavors and strains as their Cannabis cousins. You can find the Delta 8 version of a Cannabis product much cheaper.
Which is Better: Delta-8 or Delta-9?
To say which is better, you’ll have to discover your goals when you use these products. Although Delta-8 is less potent, some people prefer that, and the fact that it is some people’s only option makes it better.
Let’s be honest: Cannabis is way more potent now than it was 20 or 30 years ago. The reason behind this is cultivation and technology changes. You might be familiar with Schwag or Stress weed, which didn’t do much, but it was the only thing we had.
Now, a quick trip to the dispensary or calling the plug can have top-shelf Cannabis at your door. However, not a lot of people enjoy that ultra-potent experience. So, Delta-8 is more of a throwback to those who didn’t have the luxury of top shelf.
Delta-8 The Only Option For Some
If you live in a state where cannabis is not legal, then Delta-8 is the go-to. Either that or risk getting caught up for having a controlled substance from the plug. Most of us just want to enjoy a chill experience without all the drama of living in a state where Cannabis is not legal.
We understand that Cannabis might be better for some people who have the luxury of living where it’s legal. However, we offer an alternative to those who don’t and don’t have to hide behind some alley to smoke Flower out of a crushed-up soda can.
When you consider the chemistry, its legality, and price points, you’ll agree that Delta-8 is just as good as Delta-9 (Cannabis). However, there are some advantages to Delta 9, such as potency and experience. But that’s not to say Delta-8 is not as good as Delta-9.
